Bean Fest 2013

Good old Tracy has a Dry Bean Festival every September full of vendors, terrible-for-you-but-really-yummy food, carnival rides, bands. You could have your palms read, buy a new car, get a spray tan, pose with a guy in a monkey suit, and sit on our bikes. This year we took a RZR XP 900, a CBR250R and a little Honda 50. Something for everyone. They all drew a lot of attention and many photos were taken of little kids on the 50.

The next place we'll be is at Carnegie Visitor Appreciation Day, Sunday October 20th. Free entry for everyone, lots of vendors, hill climb demos, food booths, and TMS with lots of bikes, quads and UTVs. Don't miss it!

MotoGP Round 5 at Mugello

.

Dani Pedrosa leads the pack at MugelloYamaha's Jorge Lorenzo, in a desperate bid to keep the championship close, did exactly what he does best: Get out front immediately and run a consistent series of punishing laps to break his rivals. That’s the Lorenzo way and that’s exactly what he did at the Mugello circuit Sunday to claim his second win of the year in the fifth round of the MotoGP world championship.

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa finished second but only after teammate Marc Marquez crashed out of the number two place with three laps to go. Tech 3's Cal Crutchlow rode to an impressive a third place-finish, his second podium in a row.

But for many of the partisan fans at Mugello, the race ended on fourth comer of the first lap. With the riders still bunched from the start, Alvaro Bautista drifted wide and collided with local hero Valentino Rossi taking both riders out of the race. Race direction said it would investigate the incident.

For much of the race after the incident, Lorenzo led Pedrosa and Marquez in a tight cluster well clear of the pack. Then with 10 laps to go, Lorenzo ticked up the pace and Pedrosa began to fade. Marquez closed on his teammate and followed for a handful of laps. He pounced with five laps to go slicing inside Pedrosa on the Savelli curve and immediately opening a small gap.

Marc Marquez enters a turn at Mugello
Then Marquez, who had crashed three times in practice throughout the weekend, did it again for the fourth and final time at Mugello at the same corner where he had passed Pedrosa minutes earlier, just when he seemingly had second place locked up.

As it stands, Pedrosa still leads the championship with 103 points but now sits only 12 points clear of his primary rival, Jorge Lorenzo with 91 points. Marc Marquez remains third with 77 points.

WORCS ATV Round 5 Recap

Taft, California

H&M Motorsports’ Beau Baron wins his fourth straight race at round five of the Rocky Mountain ATV MC WORCS series presented by Motoworks and Dirt Wheels Magazine at Honolulu Hills in Taft, California. H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma claimed the second spot on the pro podium followed by Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson.

Round five of the WORCS series was held at Honolulu Hills, and even though it was early May, it felt more like late July with temperature reaching near record highs with a high of 97 degrees on Sunday at the start of the Pro ATV Main event. With the brutal heat, the race length was cut to ninety minutes, which didn’t come soon enough for many of the racers. For the first time this year, the worcs-cross section was added to the course with tires and logs to challenge the racers.

H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma grabbed the holeshot followed by Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson with David’s teammate, Beau Baron in chase. Haagsma would initially pull away from the field as he build a lead of nearly twenty seconds on second place.

Sparks’ Baron would make the pass on Nelson when he lost his seat in lap one, and Baron began his charge on Haagsma as he turned the fastest laptime of the race in lap three with a time of 09:36.378. Baron would finally reel in Haagsma in the off-road section in lap five and make the pass for the lead. Once out front, Baron would go unchallenged as he went on to claim his fourth win of the year and extend his points lead to eleven points over Haagsma.

“It was all I had to get around Davi and I knew that I had to do it soon. I was just sucking dust like a mad man and holding on through holes that you couldn’t see. I did the best I could to get buy him and I’m sure glad that I did, and it feels good to win a race,” said Baron.

Maxxis’ Haagsma would settle in the second spot, which he held to the finish for his fourth podium finish of the year. “My Honda started first kick and I used my Curtis Sparks Racing engine to get the holeshot. I powered right by everyone. I took off and tried to go as fast as I could. I knew it would be really dusty and muddy and getting out front was crucial. Once I saw Beau (Baron) in second I started rolling as fast as I could to get away from him. He eventually got on my bumper and get by me in a corner. Then I knew third place was far behind me and rode my own race and settled with second. Going one two isn’t bad, I don’t like getting second all the time but I’ll take it for this weekend,” said Haagsma.

FOX’s Nelson lost several spots early in the race when he lost his seat, but Nelson was on a mission as he charged his way back up through the pack to claim the final spot on the Podium for his first WORCS podium finish of the year.

“I am stoked to be on the podium, this is the first time all season. It was a tough race; I got a good start, but then my seat fell off on the first lap. I had to pull off and put it back on. Once I got going I was way behind the pack and it was nasty conditions to come from behind. It was really dusty in some spots and super muddy in others. I was just blowing through tear offs and my Yamaha started to overheat, but me and my Yamaha didn’t give up. It ran strong and I pushed hard all the way to the end,” said Nelson.

Yamaha’s Josh Row made a run for a podium finish, but he had to settle for the fourth spot with Nelson making the pass for the final podium spot. “Last weekend I had a pretty bad get off and bruised my ribs. They still hadn’t healed from before, so with two laps to go I started to make mistakes and I ended up losing a position. The heat added to the roughness of the track; the canyons were the worst. It was like breathing in fire as I rode through them,” said Row.

LMR’s Robbie Mitchell held the third spot early on in the race, but his airbox came lose, which forced him to the pits and dropped him back to the sixth spot before gaining a spot in the final laps to round out the top five.

Can-Am / GPR Off-road’s Dillon Zimmerman charged his way into the third spot late in the race, but he ran his foot over after his nerf bar nets broke, which sent him back several spots with just two laps remaining in the race.

In the Pro Am class, Lonestar Racing’s David Flores claimed his second straight win of the year with H&H Racing’s Bryce Peart and Duncan Racing’s Levi Shirley rounding out the podium.

WORCS 2013 Round 2 Recap

WORCS kicked off their first "Super Event" in Primm, Nevada this month for round 2. The super events consist of dirt bike, quad, and side by side racing all in the same weekend. WORCS will bring in everything from bands, all the way to freestyle shows.

Heading into the weekend, the winter chill caused it to snow. Fortunately the snow melted away by Saturday morning. As the sun began to appear over the horizon, the beautiful scenery of snowy mountaintops surrounded the track. Before the SxS parade lap, the SxS's lined up for a picture with a US Air Force fly-by in the background. There was an incredible turnout of 64 SxS entries.

As the day began to wind down on Saturday, the Pro SxS class lined up for the last race of the day. The SxS Pro class is a new edition for 2013. Like the Pro ATV and MC classes, there is a Pro Purse for the winner.

 Beau Baron taking the holeshot

Beau Baron took the holeshot in his Polaris RZR. Racing on this punishing track, Beau Baron broke a sway bar on his second lap. As the time went on, he knew he had to step on it or he could be beat on adjusted time. After the race, Baron commented on the grueling race. He stated, “I had to back it down so I wouldn't break my RZR, but a few laps from the end everyone was pointing at their wrists letting me know that someone could beat me on time adjustment. As soon as I knew that, I pinned it. The second to last lap, I went pretty fast and the last lap I gave it everything I had.” Beau Baron took the win with reigning SxS champion Ryan Piplic and Josh Frederick rounding out the podium.

As Sunday morning came along, racers were getting ready for the Pro MC, Pro 2 MC, and the Pro 2 MC Lights race. The Pro and Pro 2 class were combined for the start. Pro 2’s Precision Concept’s Tyler Renshaw grabbed the holeshot. Bell took charge and moved into first early in the race. He extended his lead and secured his first WORCS Pro class win. He then became the points leader with a 47 point gap. On the eleventh lap, Justin Jones made the pass on Ryan Abbatoye to take over the final podium position for the Pro class.

On Sunday afternoon, the Pro and Pro-Am ATV Riders began lining up on the starting line for the last race of the weekend. Being the last race of the weekend, the track would be a physical and demanding.

Dustin Nelson jumped off the line and grabbed the holeshot with his team mate Josh Row behind him. Nelson led for the first three laps then he caught his foot on his peg and twisted his knee. Nelson dropped back in the pack.

David Haagsma then took over the lead with Row behind him. Josh Frederick and Beau Baron took turns passing each other. They both passed Josh Row later on in the race as David Haagsma dropped back due to fatigue.

Beau Baron finished the race in first with Josh Frederick and Josh Row rounding out the podium. Beau Baron had a great weekend winning both the Pro SxS and Pro ATV races.
